Finding information with a link between inquiry based learning and writing an argument was quite difficult. There is a lot for science, technology and the SOSE KLAs. An interesting article I came across is by Stephanie Harvey: Nonfiction Matters: Reading, Writing and Research in Grades 3-8. (1998). She states that the best questions come from subjects the children have some knowledge of. It therfore makes sense for the children to choose a topic related to something that has been discussed in the classroom or in their homes. This is endorsed by Savery and Duffy (1994) when they state that "Cognitive conflict or puzzlement is the stimulus for learning.."
